Stant 10516 Locking Fuel Cap Review

Bought this for 98 firebird trans-am which if anyone has one knows it was a weird year for these cars and everything seems to be different from the models before and after this year. Gas caps for other years will not fit on this car. Anyway.This is a difficult locking gas cap to locate and with the price of gas where it is I needed one to keep people from the five finger discount with my gas. I would definitely recommend this product.

Stant 10511Y E85 Flex Fuel Locking Gas Cap Review

The key lock was a bit stiff. Nothing that a bit of graphite lubricant would not fix. It keeps people from siphoning gas out of your vehicle, or god forbid, pouring stuff into your gas tank. I drive cross country every so often and it makes me sleep better at hotels knowing that there is some protection on the gas tank of my vehicle. Stant 10510 Locking Fuel Cap Review

Ordered this even after reading the review stating how difficult to install.It took me two minutes at best.You need two flat head screw drivers.Using both flat heads around the plastic ring about 1/4" apart, the ring easily peels off.Putting the ring on the new cap is a cinch!I wouldn't recommend installing in cold weather.You need to stretch the factory plastic ring a little . . . so some warmth is a plus!(Now don't use a flame you idiot!)Usually these types of parts are installed by "professionals" and no instructions are needed for these types of items. However, you need not to be a rocket scientist either.Just a little common sense!

Stant 10511 Locking Fuel Cap Review

This Cap is for the 2005 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab 2WD.
There are two separate fuel cap designs that GM made for this truck. One has a threaded neck and one does not have a threaded neck. You have to look at the original fuel cap that came with your truck. My truck originally came with a non locking non threaded fuel cap from the factory. So I replaced it with the Stant 10511 locking fuel cap. You cannot find these anywhere! Pepboys, Kragen, Autozone etc! I found it on Amazon finally! It is a quality locking fuel cap. Do not buy Fram fuel caps asthey cause your check engine light to come on!

Stant 10508 Locking Fuel Cap Review

The cap worked very well, however, it came with only ONE key. With three drivers in our home, I needed 2 more keys. First I tried all the local hardware stores and none of them had the blank. They noted that it was an unusual 2 sides key, and that I should check with a locksmith. They all said they could make a one sided key and that those blanks were common. Each one had their favorite locksmith, and I saw every one. They could not help me because of, "NO BLANK". Each one said that they come from China, and they don't want to pay for American blanks, so they use their own. Stant could not help me, nor could the supplier, Great Lakes Wholesalers. I had to return your cap and buy one from Pep Boys.
